7/24/11 Sunday

Sunday, I got the privilege of spending the whole day with Gentri. We did a bit of birthday shoppin for our other sis (Bre) who's birthday was the 28th! Decided to check out this cute little store, Charming Charlie...  We were in heaven haha. I couldn't walk out of that store without buying something haha lets just say that. I bought a fun new hat which is the first thing on my list, and some new shades :). Fyi, buying a fun new hat, definitely ups the mood! G and I spent the whole rest of the day at barnes and noble writing/doing homework. It was a rather productive day!

7/25/11 Monday

2nd thing on my list is to try out the self timer on my camera and dip my toes into the pool of narcissism (self love)..  Monday night I had a little photo app with me myself and Harley haha. Didn't use the self timer cuz I only had my phone lol but eh same diff. right?

7/26/11 Tuesday

At work, a student's mom came up to me and asked, "So are you Brooke?"

"My son talks about you at home. Says your really nice and he likes you a lot."

Compliment that made my day, especially because I was not feeling well... Wednesday and Thursday I was at home in bed, sick with Bronchitis, an ear infection, and a cold.

7/29/11 Friday

Friday after work, Jhy came to my inlaws' for dinner, then we went a target trip to find our Warrior Dash outfits. Earlier this week I had mentioned to Josh, if he could get The Brave Little Toaster from his Netflicks, that would be awesome! Surprisingly he was able to ha, so he brought it over to my house and I watched The Brave Little Toaster with Josh and Jhy hahaha. This concludes the last thing on my list. Although I did not go all out and pop popcorn and make a drink, the movie definitely brought me back to home with old childhood memories of watching that movie with my sisters years ago.

7/30/11 Saturday

Took my antibiotics, some cough syrup, Excedrin back and body= ready for the Warrior Dash!

Connie, Gen, Ty, Jenna, Stephanie, Ryan, and I all ran at 5:00pm, all FINISHED, and did all of the obstacles. When I came to the last obstacle, Gen and Ty (who had already finished and were watching people cross the finish line) were yellin at me to, "Do a cannon ball!" in this giant mud pit that later had barbed wire for us to crawl through. So..................... I did. Couldn't hardly open my eyes to see where I was crawling. Had mud literally every place you can think of (in my ears, eyes, up my nose, in my mouth, and all up my shorts).

After the race, we ordered 5 Large pizzas to eat by the pool while we hung out and listened to music.
Great Day. I am happy and proud to say I did the race, because I DO NOT run hahahaaha. Add this to the list of new experiences here in Kansas!

Adventures of week 5

7/18/11-7/23/11

So, I did not really get a chance to do anything off of my list last week nor did I write down what I did, so I'm not all positive what I did what days haha but never the less...
Monday morning, unfortunately I had to say my goodbyes to Dad and Lorrie. No, saying goodbye does not get easier each time. It still completely sucks. But to boost my mood a bit at work, we took the kids on a field trip to Chucky Cheese. It was fun to see the kids go nuts with their tokens. In my second class, I learned how to put hearing aids in for one of my kids which was pretty interesting.

As I think about this.. It's completely true.  I was terrified to move, but now that I have.. I have grown so much and gained more than I had imagined already, and it's only been 2 months that I've been here. I have always kind of been a little intimidated by kids for some reason. I guess just because I had never had experience with them. I am the youngest in my family, so no little brothers or sisters. A month past and I was still in the process of getting my aesthetic license transferred to Kansas, therefore, I was not working yet. My sister, went on a girls trip with the fam and mentioned that I was currently unemployed. Laurie, who is (bare with me) my bro in law's (Tyler) sister's (Jenna) husband's (Robbie) mom, owns this daycare and told Gen that they were hiring. Gentri then called to asked me if I would be interested in working at a daycare. (My thoughts: hmmmmmm. I am on this streak of trying new things. Currently all I do during the day is write, run errands, take care of the dog, clean, and watch tv. I have no friends and I would be forced to meet people. I have always wished that I would be good with kids. It would give me something to do. And last but not least... I need money.) I had no reason not to, other than my being nervous. I went in, applied, and started working at the Christian daycare that very next week. Now... Would have I just gone out on my own to apply for a job at a daycare just because I wanted to? No haha of course not. I really like my job though. And from this, I have met a lot of really cool people and was able to make some friends. Every day I am learning how to be with kids.

Wednesday night I think I just watched The Boondock Saints (one of my fav movies) with Morgan because he had not seen it before. 

Thursday night was a new experience for me most definitely. I went out to a gay club with Jhy and her cousin. Drag queens wearing scandalous dresses that were barely covering there butt cheeks, could booty pop in 4 inch platform heels, better than I can walk in them haha. When we walked out of there, the three of us looked as if we had just walked out of the pool. SWEEEAAAAATTTTYYYYY! It was fun still, a little small,  but another experience to say the least. 

Friday night I ran 3 miles on the track with walking about 2 in between (For me... thats extremely good.. I don't run normally), and still worked out after.  Then, Josh and Jhy came over to watch Saw, The Final Chapter.

Saturday when I woke up, Gen was out doing homework and Ty was gone camping or on some trip ha , so I had the house to myself. She texted me to let me know that she was having car troubles and she was waiting to get her battery replaced. Didn't sound like the best day to me. She was also planning on cleaning the house at some point because it was rather messy. In what time? I couldn't tell ya haha. I cleaned the kitchen, living room, main floor bathroom, upstairs bathroom, guest room, and for a little extra surprise.. I cleaned her room and bathroom. Aaaaaand the coolest sister award goes to................drumroll...........................Brooke Samara Brown! thanks : D After she came home and walked all through the house, including her room, she walked up to me with tears in her eyes, gave me a giant hug, and told me THANK YOU.  Knowing how much she appreciated what I did, easily made it worth while. Seeing someone else happy and smile,  and knowing that you had a part in that, most definitely is one of the best feelings you can have!

7/11/11 Monday

Got my butt kicked by 6-7 year olds bowling. If it's any consolation I was the only one not using bumpers. All the kids are just sittin makin fun of me cuz they were getting better scores. My turn comes up. Strike! I look behind me to see all the kids just doin there own thing. Like really.... there's like what? 24 some odd kids, and not one, (NOT ONE) saw me bowl that strike.  Five minutes later some of the girls saw that I had a strike on the screen and were yelling "Miss Brooke!! You got a strike!" as there jumpin up and down and givin me high fives and hugs. You see, now that was the initial response I was aiming for when I looked back the first time. Eh, better late than never ha. After work, shopped around Hobby Lobby for about 2 hours until they kicked me out :( Got myself some new calligraphy and paint stuff to play with though! So for the rest of the night, that's just what I did.

7/12/11 Tuesday

Practiced painting strokes and painted a panda at work while the kids colored. After work, went to the in laws for an extremely tasteful fish fry (potato wedges, hush puppies, and of course.. freshly caught fish), minus the beets that EVERYONE had to taste, which tasted how a garden smells. After dinner I went to Walmart to buy one of my fav chick flicks/movies. As I was walking out to my car, a lady (darker skin, prob in her 50's, missing some teeth) with a cart of groceries caught my attention and asked me to give her a ride home :/ .... Sketch!  I really wanted to help her out but it was pretty iffy. For one, I was alone. And two, I had already gotten my gps and aux chord stolen the week before. I asked if She needed me to call anyone for her or if I could help out in that way but she said no. So I said sorry and went on my way.. As night rolled around, a big thunderstorm hit so I thought, "what better night to refer to my list!" My guilty pleasures hmmmm?  Watched Burlesque while eating oreos dipped in milk, feeling cozy wrapped up in blankets, listening to the storm just outside my house.  ahhhhhhhh so nice.

7/13/11 wednesday

Harley decided she wanted to wake up at 5 freakin am.. then 6 am, and again at 7 when my alarm went off (so glad I got 3 hours of sleep. awesome). Went to the dmv that is supposed to be right up the street from my house and of course they just changed locations to a mall. Took me a half an hour to find it. Two hours later I got my license,or should I say paper receipt.. and registered to vote (For you mom). I was sooooooo tired at work and trying so hard not to fall asleep during a movie with the first class and a movie with the 2nd class... killer. Plopped right on the couch once I got home and instantly passed out. Dreamt about stir fry haha, and woke up to dinner made (which smelt like stir fry). Ty grilled turkey, zucchini, and cooked potato wedges mmmm yes.  I ran a mile. Took an amazing bath.  So... I decided that a warm bath after a good run=best luxury.... After a bed ha.

Came home from work to Dad and Lorrie! I had been counting down the days till I got to see them.  This was a great night. Burgers for dinner right before "small group bible study", which if you were wondering...  My new friend from church did come. We moved furniture and boxes from the trailer to my room and basement finally before bed.

7/15/11 Friday

It was hard to work knowing that my dad was home but when I did get home, we ate a fantastic steak dinner, sat at the table for a while after, just talking and reminisced about funny childhood stories. We went to the theatre's to see the last Harry Potter! which was amazing. Last but not least, I slept in my very own bed for the first time in two months. <3

7/16/11 Saturday

Got woken up by my dad jumping on my bed (some kids just never grow up). Came upstairs and there was fresh coffee, cinnamon rolls, eggs, and crepes with fruit. Lets be honest, breakfast just doesn't get any better than that! My dad who has two Harley Davidson motorcycles, then took the girls to get pedicures! Yes he got one, along with a manicure haha. Conveniently enough that happened to be on my list. oh man, pedicures were a brilliant invention. We met Ty at the Harley Davidson store, went out for some Kansas BBQ, and for our night activity, we decided to try somethin new and experience some live jazz music at The Blue Room downtown. First time listening to live jazz music... I loved it. The family had a great time visiting, sippin on drinks, and watching the band. One guy in particular, playing with the band (the drummer), really drew my attention. He had a giant smile that illustrated the simplicity of happiness that drumming gave him.  He would sway his head back and forth, and back and forth as if each time, he were tossing out worries and letting solely the music fill his head.  Apparently his performance had my attention a lot more than I thought because Gen had asked me when I was planning on asking for his number haha. Then she turned completely serious and mentioned how this would be a good time to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger (the band was taking a slight break).  Well.... I figured ha, "I got nothin to lose", as I walked up to the drummer, introduced myself and told him that he was doing a great job. Of course the whole time I am talking to this drummer (Ryan Lee), Lorrie, Dad, Gen, and Ty are just creepin with all eyes on us haha. yada yada.. It was nice meeting you and so on. I must have done somethin right, because about 10 minutes after I sat back down at our table, Ryan came up and introduced himself to my family, handed me his card, and asked me to stay in touch. Success.

7/17/ 11 Sunday

Church Sunday morning was inspirational as always. It puts me in a good mood :) Fun little fact.. Lorrie had not experienced a church service like ours before, so it was fun to bring her along for the experience. After church, we ate at First Watch. I got some bomb tasting french toast with fruit! Dad and Lorrie came with me to run some errands and we were able to get me some new bedding as well as some drives for movies :)  Sunday night go carting is half price so that is how we spent the night! Definitely a blast with my slightly competitive family haha.

7/3/11 Sunday

Starting this week with the first thing on my list, Jhy and I got tatted up and gave ourselves sleeves with temporary biker tattoos and some random glow in the dark ones so they would show up on Jhy ;) haha.

Later Josh, Poala, Jhy and I went to watch fireworks... Well at least that was the original plan haha. When I gave my phone and gps to Jhy so she could punch in the address, she decided to type some persons house address. After 45 minutes of driving in the middle of nowhere, we finally came to the destination of some way sketch neighborhood that led literally to a dead end. We made our way back and just hung out at Sonic for a while. When I got home I was able to Skype my bestie Dani! So that was tons of fun to see her :)

7/4/11 Monday (4th of July!)

Went to the pool with the fam for a few hours and enjoyed some rays. It was a beautiful day! I still had my sweet half sleeve tats. Robbie (Jenna's husband) asked me if I was going to fill in the gaps of the tattoos to pull it all together haha.. oh funny. He thought they were legit. For later festivities and the 2nd thing on the list, we all met up later for a picnic and firework show. The picnic turned into a smorgasbord because everyone brought tons of food to share. (sausage, cheese, crackers, macaroni salad, chips, grapes, juicy watermelon, homemade cookies, and drinks haha) jealous? Now I just have to tell you how amazing the sunset was this night, omi it was gorgeous! So of course I caught a couple pics. The firework show was pretty great too. I honestly could watch fireworks for hours. Unfortunately, some tunes were lacking at this event. Still tons of fun though.

When we came home, we found a ginormous spiderweb in our backyard going from the rosebush, to the deck stairs, with a bright red spider chillin in the middle. It was awesome! Tyler and I caught some bugs, threw them in the web, and watched as the spider spun them into little cocoons. It was rather entertaining haha.

7/5/11 Tuesday

I go out to my car Tuesday morning, about to head to work, only to find that my gps and aux chord had been jacked. (not like I use them much or anything..) BLAH. But besides that, work went well. Entertaining as usual haha. 

Story from work today, not using real names of the kids:

• Zach- comes up to me and Breanna, "Brad stuck his middle finger out at me!"
• Me and Breanna- "Brad, are you sticking certain fingers out at people? You know that means something bad right?
• Brad- "Yea... Germs "

When I came home from work, Tyler asked me if I wanted to go out for some frozen custard:). So for the 3rd thing on my list, Ty took me to Culvers and bought me frozen custard with tons of oreo! yum.

7/6/11 Wednesday

 Succeeding work, I spend the majority of my night creating a music playlist which is the next thing on my list.

 

 

Haha long ass playlist, I'm aware.. it took me a long ass time :)  But hey maybe you will find your new fav song from this! When I finished this, me and Harley (my puppy) took a relaxing night time walk as I jammed to my new playlist. Along the way, I passed by a rather good looking guy who was also taking a  stroll, listening to his i pod, (not wearing a shirt might I add).  Hmm and I come to the last thing on my list: Striking up a conversation with a complete stranger...... SYKE

Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda............. Didn't. (too scared) Haha Save that one for another day when I grow the balls to start the conversation with a random person.

7/7/11 Thursday

The kids played with shaving cream today. Just sprayed a bunch out on the tables and let them mess around with it until it was all soaked in ha. Messy-not as bad as I had imagined. In fact, the kids were practically doing the my dirty work while having a blast because the shaving cream made the tables spotless after I wiped them off. Quite convenient. Jhy came with me to run some errands after work and shop a bit. This last paycheck got spent on a new gps.. Although this one is a lot nicer than my last one, yay. I also bought some makeup foundation. Who would have thought that make up could make you smile, or laugh. Way random..

7/8/11 Friday

Friday night, me and Jhy thought it might be fun to bring her little dog over to meet my big dog and take them for a walk together. Well you see, "little" is an understatement for her dog haha. Pretty sure, sweet innocent Harley thought Oreo was a rodent.. Harley=100 lbs. Oreo= a whopping 8 lbs. After the walk (with me about 5 ft ahead of her the whole way), we just went to Paola's and hung out with a few people. I was tired as hell with a pounding migraine when I came home around 2am. To my surprise, there was a full sized mattress leaning against the couch that I've been sleeping on! There was no way I was going to sleep on the couch again, knowing that mattress was like 5 ft away from me haha. That night's sleep was so well worth the struggle of moving the mattress myself. You have no idea how excited I was to sleep on a mattress.. a real mattress :) .

Saturday I helped G & T rearrange furniture and such. They turned the room I was stayin in into a real guest bedroom. Therefore until my room gets here, I have a real bed to sleep in and a dresser to put my suitcase in haha pretty happy. July 9th is my best friend marcus' birthday so I made sure to give him a call to wish him a good one. He turned 21 this year haha. I told him all he needs to remember is that his best friend Brooke called him. At 7pm Morgan and his band were havin a show downtown so Jhy and I went to support and watch them perform at that. I am actually way glad we went cuz some of the people were very impressive. It was nice to just do somethin new and be around younger people just hangin out, havin a good time, watching people do what they love.

Came home to a black cat sitting right by Jhy's car. Personally I'm not a superstitious person. Jhy on the other hand haha you could say was slightly unnerved by the cuddly thing. Anyhow lol, I looked up "black cat superstition" on the interweb. "In some cultures, black cats are considered good luck and in others, they are considered bad luck." (Wiki)

7/10/11 Sunday

It is hecka more difficult to get out of a bed in the morning than a couch if your wondering ha <3 The feeling as been greatly missed lol. At church I was introduced to a great new song, "Grace" by Michael W Smith. Ty also introduced me to a girl named Karrie. It was her first time attending our church and she was kind of in the same boat as me, as far as not having many friends and starting new in some sense. I'm not sure if that really counts for the last thing on my list but it's the closest I've gotten to it so far ha. I sat by her through church, we got to talk for a little while after, and I believe she is going to come to "small group" bible study at my house Thursday night :) .

6/27/11 Monday

Monday at work I had asked one of my students (Kayleigh) if i could have a piece of paper because she had this special notepad ha. She gave me a piece and after about an hour she came up to me and asked, "Miss Brooke.. Have you written on that paper I gave you yet?". "Nope, not yet. Why?" I asked. " And she replied, "Oh just wonderin..." and ran back to play with her friends. About 30 min later Kayleigh came up to me again and asked if I had written on her paper yet. "No, I still haven't. Did you need it?" I replied. "Ummm yes." She said. So I gave Kayleigh her paper back. A few minutes later, she brought me the paper with a picture she had drawn and told me that she drew the picture for me:). I Asked her for another piece of paper, because she drew on mine, and I drew a picture for her in return.

As I was in my 2nd class for the day, I had noticed a fresh cut on a little boy's chin (Alexis).
-Shalyn- "What happened to your chin Alexis?"
-Alexis- "I went out to the woods and a big bear scratched me."
-Me- "Ok Alexis, tell me the truth. How did you get that scratch on your chin?"
-Alexis- "THE BIG BEAR!"
That was his story and he was stickin to it haha.. Yes, we put this on the incident report lol.

For the first thing on my list for the week I decided to write a list of things that I appreciated and was thankful for at that very moment.

List of things that I appreciate & am thankful for

• Relationship with God 
• Amazing, supporting, loving family
• New friends ( Jhy, Shalyn, Maria, Breanna, Morgan, Josh, Robert.. and the list just keeps growing)
• Job that I love
• TV that Jenna and Robbie gave me for free!
• The moments when Harley (my dog) is a sweetheart<3
• My skin is finally clearing up since I moved here. Darn humidity haha
• My new MacBook
• Fun-loving-amusing kids that make me laugh every day at work
• Old friends back home that I know will always stay close
• Very generous sister and bro in law that let me stay with them

6/28/11 Tuesday

Story from work (two kids in my pre-k class)

-Camron- Poking and making noises in Alyssa's ear

-Alyssa- "Camron! Stop!" Does it back to him

-Me- "Alyssa, hands to yourself please"

-Camron- Does it again 

-Alyssa-"Stop it! I'm telling..." Comes up to me and tells on Cameron

-Me- "If Cameron is bugging you, then you can sit over here away from him."

-Alyssa- "But I want to sit by him" :)

-Me- "If your sitting by him, he's just going to keep doing the same thing."

-Alyssa- "So, ummm.. Can I annoy him?"

After work Jhy came over to run some errands with me. On our way out of the neighborhood, She gets a call from her girl friend... Stranded and out of gas hahaha. So we took a slight detour to save Paola. I knew there was a reason I kept that gas can in the trunk of my car. After this adventure, Jhy and I went to "Party City" for some supplies. That store was way too entertaining :) . While we were goin up and down the isles messin around with all the party favors and accessories, I look behind me and see Jhy with her two index fingers stuck in one of those Chinese wood chip finger trap things haha. I literally busted up laughing while she kept trying to pull her fingers out and it started tearing.  Laughed so hard that I started crying and just about peed my pants haha.  

Late Tuesday night, I got ready for bed, took out my comp and looked up some music on youtube. The 2nd thing on my list was to try to develop an appreciation for a band or style of music that I've never liked. I had never really been familiar with dubstep music but had heard it around since I moved here so I looked up "Skrillex" and just "dubstep" in general. Turned out I really do like it so I downloaded some to my i tunes ha :).  Naturally that lead into the 3rd thing on my list which was dancing around my house in my pj's to my new music. I wasn't able to completely blast it unfortunately because by this time it was about 1:30am and G & T were asleep in the room above me ha. But I did have a pretty good jam and dance sesh around the TV room. Harley didn't know what the hell was goin on, but she liked it haha. She started jumpin around and wanting to play.

6/30/11 Thursday

After work, I made brownies and homemade frosting with Jhy. Next time we'll check what we have and what we need.. before we go to the store to get the ingredients haha durrrr. Trip one to the store: brownie mix, sprinkles, powdered sugar. Trip two to the store: Milk. Trip three ...... to the neighbors: oil. Anyhow, the brownies turned out great. rather pretty. I forgot to take pics of them unfortunately :( but one batch of brownies had white frosting with blue and red stripes of sprinkles and it said "4th of July" in those candy letter things. The other batch had chocolate frosting and said " Marias magic brownies 65321", (I had the 4 on mine lol) with blue and red sprinkles.

7/1/11 Friday

We had a 4th of July party with my pre-k class. I brought the brownies I made and Shalyn brought cupcakes that she made for the class. After work I went out for my friend Ashtyn's birthday, with a few people, to Golden Coral? haha Random, hadn't eaten there since I was like 10 it seemed. We went night swimming way later evening. Slept at Jhy's.

7/2/11 Saturday

This was a lazy day for me :) Slept in till like 12pm, came home and took a 30 min relaxing bath, then napped on the couch for a few hours haha. (late night alright). To finish off the last thing on my list.. I met Morgan at a comedy club downtown and was able to enjoy some great improv comedy with great company :)
